A fun, accessible activity that provides a full-body core workout, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) involves standing up on a surf-like board and using a paddle to propel yourself through the water. If you’re new to the sport, keep these helpful tips in mind:
1. Use a leash. Whatever the water conditions or skill level, a leash will prevent you from getting separated from your board if you fall off.
2. Hold the paddle correctly. Instead of holding it with two hands like a broom, use one hand on the top of the paddle and one hand on the shaft.
3. Use the correct muscles. Separate your hands as wide as your shoulders and use large strokes, which will let your strong back muscles and abdominal muscles do most of the work.
4. Look at the horizon, not the board. This will aid in balance and stability.
